THINK like a ROMANIAN and you’ll SPEAK like a ROMANIAN

ABOUT ROMANIAN PRONUNCIATION

DON’T TRY TO CHEAT! Pronounce the entire word. The ending part shows you a lot of things: if we are talking about a male or a female, if we are talking about me, you, they etc. and a lot of other things

ABOUT ROMANIAN NOUNS

DID YOU KNOW that:

  • in Romanian language, the majority of the nouns are masculin or feminin?  If they are masculin, we use HE, if they are feminin we use SHE. There is no IT in Romanian language.
    EXAMPLE: masă (table) – it’s a SHE   or   pat (bed) – it’s a HE
  • to recognize if a noun is masculin or feminin you should look at the last letter of the word? All the feminin nouns end in a vowel (this can be „ă” or „e”)
EXAMPLE: lună (moon), mamă (mother), fată (girl)
  • We have only few nouns that are neutral. Neutral means the nouns sound like a masculin noun on the singular form and like a feminin noun on the plural form.
BEST EXAMPLE is SCAUN (chair): un scaun (a chair – masculin form „un”), două scaune (two chairs – feminin form „două”)
